Confidence can literally change your life! There are a number of ways to gain self-confidence. Keep reading and use some of these tips and let me know how they work for you.
When I first became a single father, I was at my lowest in self-confidence. I decided in the long term it was going to kill me if I didn’t get some mojo back. After all, I needed to be a rock for my son and he is my driving force. I didn’t want to look back and regret how I was as a father to him in his young life.
Here I would like to share some ways to gain self-confidence that helped me.
Looking good is feeling good.
Put on some nice clothes. Even if you don’t plan on leaving the house or going anywhere besides work. Something might come to mind that you need to do.
Let’s say, you decide to go to the grocery store. If you don’t look good (or at least think you look good) you may not want to go. Then you will regret not having that Hungry Man dinner to eat during Monday Night Football. Regret will turn into more bad feeling. Don’t let that happen.
Additionally, put on some of that cologne in the morning. You want to smell good too. If you feel like you smell good it will be easier to say more than “good, how are you” to the cashier at the store.
Body language is a good indicator of how someone feels. You will want to consciously have confident body language. This will not only give others the impression you are confident, it will give you the impression you are more confident.
This is no magic formula. You know what I am talking about. Stand up straight, put your chin up and your shoulders back. I you are at the store move with a purpose. Smiling all the way. Pretend you are saying “Hello, I’m confident” as people walk by you. Don’t be afraid to look them in the eye while doing so.
Take good care of yourself.
Think of it this way. When you don’t take good care of yourself you are being selfish. You know your kids need you and they care about you. Don’t be a selfish man that doesn’t have the stamina to go play catch at the end of the day. So while your are at the store confidently getting your Hungry Man dinner don’t grab a pack on Twinkies as the side dish.
Again, you will feel better. Ways to gain self-confidence is all about making yourself feel better.
Keep your good feelings going by appreciating yourself. This means to be happy with yourself and your accomplishments. What did you accomplish today? Yesterday? What do you plan on getting done tomorrow? Be proud of yourself even if you were able to just get out of bed today. Tomorrow take it a step further.
A good way I found to do this is just before I go to sleep. I think back on the day and find the things I did that made me the most proud of myself. Just think of all the good things that happened, even if they are very few and be happy about them. Don’t you dare think about negative stuff that happened. You can’t do anything about them while you are sleeping.
Improve your self-talk
Don’t tell yourself you are a looser. That won’t make things better. You can’t say negative things to yourself and expect anything good to become of it. Remember, your thoughts will turn into your actions.
This is especially hard when you are not happy. You have to practice. It won’t happen overnight but, little by little you can start to get back on that big confidence horse.
Affirmations are one of the great ways to gain self-confidence. This is the concept of saying things to yourself out loud that are encouraging. Like, I am a great father. I have an abundance of self-confidence. Nothing anyone says to me can hurt me. I am powerful. I am Captain America!
I do this quite often while taking a shower. On days when I really want to get it going I keep saying them while shaving in front of the mirror.
See yourself as you want to be. Again, this is great to do when you lay down to go to sleep. This will also take a lot of practice. Picture your best self, being your best. Really try to get as happy as you can while doing this. Science has proved our brains can’t tell the difference between real life and something that is vividly imagined and backed up by strong emotion.
Make a movie of the life you want in your mind. This will improve so much more than just your self-confidence.

- Body language. Get your groove going! Stand up and walk like everyone wants a chance to talk to you.
- Take good care of yourself. Make plans to be around for a long time for those that love you.
- Appreciate yourself. Think about all the good you are doing everyday.
- Improve your self-talk. Don’t beat yourself up because your brain will believe you.
- Affirmations. Speak to yourself out loud as if you are already the man you want to be.
- Visualization. Practice seeing your best self in your vivid imagination.

This book literally changed my life and I haven’t looked back. Get yourself a copy and do the exercises. I love this book because it isn’t something you just read. You apply the practical lessons right away and you can’t help but be better for it.
