Lately, many of us could use some real positive words of encouragement. Due to recent events some people have become very negative. I would like to encourage you today not to fall into this trap.
I say, let’s try to turn our thinking around for the positive. No one can truly be happy and grateful if they are focused on the negative. Get some positive thoughts flowing today and make it a good one.
Get Rid of the Negative Mindset
We all go through our lives each day with constant reminders of what is going wrong. There are a lot of things from the outside that are always telling us what is negative and what we should be worried about.
Things like the news, negative family members, and friends. Also, don’t forget that guy in the Tesla that thinks you cut him off on the highway.
You can turn off the news, and you probably should, but what about family and friends? Most of these people mean well, however, they are exposed to the same negative things you are so sometimes they dump things on you.
If we are not careful, those negative things will try to take root and grow. Pretty soon, we are planting those same seeds of negativity in others, like our kids.
How do we keep these things from taking root? The simple fact is, that negative things will come and bad things will happen, but we can choose what affect they have on us.
Guard Your Mind
At some point we have to take responsibility for what we allow to influence our thinking. After all, you don’t want to end up like that old sorehead that lived behind you when you were a kid. You know the old crank I’m talking about.
When your football accidentally went into his yard you thought, forget it. I’m done playing ball today. I will just get a new ball tomorrow. You wouldn’t dare go into his yard to get your ball back.
You have to learn to guard your mind against negativity. Treat that junk like it can’t bother you. Don’t take someone else’s burdens and make them your own.
When you hear something negative that might make you feel bad, or ruin your day just say to yourself, no thanks. My mind is closed for that sort of business. I’m choosing not to let anything negative in my mind.
Now, we still need to have compassion and listen to people. Some family and friends may have real problems and they need your help. What I am saying, is not to let it affect you negatively and take your happiness.
One of the ways to stay positive is to choose happiness. We have to be grateful for the good things in our lives. Make a conscious effort to be grateful.
Make an effort to focus on the things in your life that bring you happiness. Make it part of a daily ritual. Take five or ten minutes every day to remind yourself of all the good things in your life.
If you take showers when you first wake up try it then. Maybe, a good time is at breakfast or before bed. Find 5 or 10 minutes every day, when things are quiet to be grateful.
You might say, “I’ve been tossing this idea of things that make me happy around in my head all day and I just can’t think of anything”.
Then you are going to have to fake it. Fake it til you make it. You know your own mind better than anyone else does so do whatever you can to focus on positive thinking.
Thoughts lead to more of the same thoughts
Your thoughts will lead to more thoughts of the same nature. If a negative thought enters your mind, and they will at some point, left unchecked it will lead to another negative thought.
Before you know it, those thoughts turn into an action. Bank robbers don’t just go out and rob a bank on a whim. The end result of robbing a bank starts with a thought.
The first thought might be, “I’m poor, I need more money”. Then, “How do I get more money?”. “I’m a loser and I don’t have a job. I could find some money. Where would I find some money? Banks have money. How do I get the money from a bank? I could just walk in and take it.”
Pretty soon there is a whole intricate plan in their mind on how to rob a bank. Sure this is an extreme example, but it proves the point that all action starts with a single thought.
Learn to get rid of a negative mindset. Turn off all that noise and find positive, encouraging things in your day. Guard your mind against negative influences. Don’t let the negative things in life take root in your mind. Put up a barrier in your mind, a line in the sand that only positive things may cross.
Choose to be happy and consciously focus on things that bring you happiness. Be grateful for all the things that are good in your life. Make some up if you can’t think of any.
By focusing on the positive, you will breed more positive. With time, only positive results will come. Make this a real habit.
I really hope that these positive words of encouragement will help you through some of the tougher days. Thanks for reading and stay positive.
